AlmaLinux OS as a Replacement for CentOS 8

The CentOS operating system was a clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), stripped of Red Hat's proprietary elements. At the end of 2020, it was announced that the development of CentOS 8 would be discontinued, leaving every responsible admin to solve the question of what to do next.

As the most promising alternatives to the discontinued CentOS 8 and the aging CentOS 7, Rocky Linux or AlmaLinux have emerged. We ultimately decided on AlmaLinux.

AlmaLinux is an open-source operating system created explicitly as an alternative to CentOS 8. Its greatest advantage is its ease of deployment and its large developer community.

Our new VPS servers and dedicated servers now offer the option for automatic AlmaLinux installation.

Servers with management now also run on AlmaLinux with a customized installation of ISPconfig 3, specifically tailored for AlmaLinux.
