Sometimes, it's useful to redirect email. Whether you're on vacation or need to send copies to another email address, here's how to do it:
Email redirection can be done in various ways. Most commonly, you might want to redirect a specific email account to another one. For example, redirecting all incoming mail from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
. This is a typical scenario when an employee leaves, you're on vacation, or there are other reasons for email redirection. Our web hosting control panel supports email redirection with simple configuration.
Types of Redirection:
- Forwarding Copies of Messages (Data is kept in both mailboxes)
- Redirecting Mail (Data is stored only in the destination mailbox)
Forwarding Copies of Messages
This method is used when you want to view messages separately. For example, forwarding some messages to the billing department, technical support, etc. Another common use case is when an employee goes on maternity leave. During their absence, messages from clients are forwarded to a colleague who will handle the incoming mail.
A major downside is that each message takes up space on the server twice (once in the original mailbox and once in the mailbox where the copy was forwarded). This can lead to quicker exhaustion of your email storage quota.
Configuration for Forwarding Copies of Messages:
- Log in to your control panel (access details were provided in your hosting setup email).
- Go to the "Email" tab.
- Under the "Email Accounts" section, navigate to "Email Mailboxes".
- If you have many email accounts, use the filtering options to find the desired email mailbox.
- Click on the mailbox name to open the settings for that specific mailbox.
- In the mailbox settings, find the "Forward incoming copy to" field. You can enter multiple email addresses to which copies of the emails will be forwarded, following the instructions provided. Click "Save" to apply the changes.
- After a few minutes, send a test email to the mailbox to verify the application and correctness of the new configuration.
Redirecting Mail
If an employee has left and their mailbox is no longer needed, it's practical to redirect mail from their old mailbox to their successor. Another common scenario is when you want multiple names to point to the same mailbox, especially useful if the user has a complicated name.
Configuration for Redirecting Mail:
- Log in to your control panel (access details were provided in your hosting setup email).
- Go to the "Email" tab.
- Under the "Email Accounts" section, navigate to "Email Mailboxes".
- If you have many email accounts, use the filtering options to find the desired email mailbox.
- Now, go to the "Email Aliases" page under the "Email Accounts" section.
- Create an email redirect using an email alias by clicking on the "Create Email Alias" button.
- Fill in the source email (the previous employee's mailbox) and the target email (the new employee who will take over the mail).
- After clicking "Save," wait a few minutes and verify the application and correctness of the new configuration by sending a test email.
