How to Have Happy Employees

Our company has been growing beautifully, and a year ago, we had to focus more on our employees and all the ways to make them happier and more productive. First, we created a simple questionnaire where employees, acquaintances, and even employees of our competitors could tell us what makes them happy. A happy employee is a satisfied and thus more productive employee. Below we share part of the results of our survey. Some results are part of our know-how, so we can't share them further.

  1. How many hours a day would you like to work? The options were 5x8 hours (standard), 4x10 hours, 3x13 hours per week.

The majority preferred 4 days a week for 10 hours each.

  2. Would you prefer to work in a single office or an open space?

The most common answer was in an office with a team of 6-8 people.

  3. What benefits would you most appreciate? The options were an extra week of vacation, bonuses, travel, training, company daycare, dog daycare, or flexible working hours.

The overwhelming majority chose flexible working hours.

  4. Would you prefer to work at the company headquarters or from home office?

This question was tricky. Exactly half preferred working from home, and the other half preferred commuting to work daily.

  5. Would you prefer weekly, monthly, or quarterly salary payments?

This question was quite surprising. The majority preferred weekly payments.

We also asked several detailed questions from which we did not gain any useful insights. For example, we asked about:

  • Divider for the work desk?
  • Type of office chair?
  • Laptop or desktop computer?
  • Office color?
  • Glass or brick office?
  • Own meals, canteen, or company-provided meals?
  • Bathroom with a shower in the office?

Other questions are part of our know-how that helped us create the design of our new offices.
